Heavy In The Jungle

by Gary Ward

This routine is based on an idea from Scotland's most prolific card magician, Peter Duffie. In his book, "21 Card Tricks," Peter describes an effect titled, "Heavyweight" which is based on Marty Kane's "Status Quo Principle." HEAVY IN THE JUNGLE carries this idea a step further by creating a routine that can be audience interactive and entertaining to children and family audiences.

Effect: Magician shows a set of seven (7) animal cards, each picturing a different animal picture. After dealing the cards into two packets, the "light" packet, (the packet with the least number of cards, this packet will have 3 cards) is placed on top of the heavy packet, (the packet with the most cards, this packet will have 4 cards.) This bit of business is done several times, as determined by the spectator. The spectator is asked to assemble the two packets alter the final deal. For each letter in the word "H-E-A-V-Y," the spectator is asked to deal a card to the table The last card dealt is the heaviest animal in the jungle, THE ELEPHANT!
